As Hurricane Harvey made its arrival along the Texas Gulf Coast, unleashing a strength and fury unlike anything the state has seen before, a tiny baby girl came into the world bearing the same name as the catastrophic storm unfolding around her.

Nicole Rose Harvey made her appearance at 4:03 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital. This bundle of joy, weighing 9 pounds and measuring 20 ¾ inches long, may share a namesake with a now infamous hurricane, but she’s already bringing hope and optimism at a time when it’s needed more than ever.

“It’s always a good feeling to bring a newborn baby into this world, but this delivery was extra special for me and for our staff,” said Dr. Marco Giannotti, an obstetrician at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital who delivered Nicole. “At a time when so much hurt and sorrow is happening all around, Nicole’s arrival helped remind us that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”
