SPRING, TX — The Grand Oaks Grizzlies maintained their dominance in 13-6A district play with a 60-51 victory over the visiting Willis Wildkats on Wednesday night. The win, achieved through key halftime adjustments, marked their seventh consecutive district triumph, solidifying their place at the top of the standings.

Grand Oaks head coach Anthony Stephens is becoming known for his effective halftime adjustments, which have been instrumental in the team’s success. No single strategy is going to defeat the Grizzlies—a reflection of their ability to adapt and thrive under pressure.

The first half saw Willis come out strong, executing a physical defense and efficient offense that gave them a 26-23 halftime lead. The Wildkats’ energy and determination challenged the Grizzlies, keeping the home team on edge as they entered the locker room.

After halftime, however, Stephens’ adjustments became apparent. The Grizzlies focused on quick ball movement, skip passes, and finding holes in Willis’ defense. Despite a few turnovers, these changes created opportunities, leading to multiple lead changes in the third quarter. A buzzer-beater three-pointer capped a 4-0 Grizzlies run, igniting the Grand Oaks gym and setting the tone for a strong finish.

In the fourth quarter, Grand Oaks guard Trae Lewis took over the game. Scoring 15 points in a dominant performance, Lewis helped stretch the Grizzlies’ lead to double digits. A highlight moment came when he converted an and-one layup, cementing the win. The Wildkats’ late attempts to rally were thwarted, and the Grizzlies confidently ran out the clock to secure the 60-51 victory.

The victory demonstrates the Grizzlies’ adaptability and composure under pressure, traits that continue to set them apart in district play. Grand Oaks now turns its focus to Saturday’s matchup against Caney Creek, while Willis will regroup during their break before facing their next opponent on January 14.
