The Woodlands, Texas – The College Park High School Cavalier Orchestra filled the air with holiday cheer Thursday evening during their 2024 Winter Concert at the College Park High School Theatre. Under the leadership of Director of Orchestras Mr. Emmanuel Coraza and Assistant Director of Orchestras and Mary Kate Sturgill, the evening showcased the talent and dedication of five ensembles: Sinfonietta, Philharmonic, Camerata, Chamber, and Symphony Orchestras.

The Symphony Orchestra, the program’s premier ensemble, brought the magic of the season to life with stunning renditions of Sleigh Ride, The Christmas Song, and selections from The Nutcracker Suite. The Chamber Orchestra added a cultural twist with their performance of Italian Holiday, beautifully narrated by Head Marching Band Director Mr. Jeff Gorring, who shared the heartwarming “Legend of Old Befana,” captivating the audience with this Italian Christmas tale.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the orchestra's Booster Club provided refreshments in the lobby, offering warm beverages and holiday treats for concertgoers to enjoy before and after the performances.

A standout moment of the evening was the All-State duet, featuring senior Arturo Gonzalez on cello and freshman Benjamin Zhou on violin, accompanied by pianist David Englert. Their performance was a masterclass in skill and harmony, earning enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

The concert’s surprises delighted the audience further. The theatre darkened completely as the orchestras performed with illuminated bows, creating a mesmerizing light show synchronized with their music. The event concluded with all five orchestras gathering on stage for a group photo, a perfect way to commemorate the evening of holiday joy and musical excellence.

The 2024 Winter Concert was a celebration of the season and a testament to the talent, passion, and hard work of College Park’s young musicians. The enchanting performances, festive ambiance, and sense of community left attendees in awe and eager for the next event.
