College Park HS Principal Dr. Mark Murrell Honored as a 2024 Hometown Hero

In a proud moment for The Woodlands community, Dr. Mark Murrell, Principal of College Park High School, has been named a 2024 Hometown Hero by Interfaith of The Woodlands. This prestigious recognition is part of the annual Hometown Heroes awards, which celebrate individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the local area.



Dr. Murrell has been a transformative figure in the educational landscape of The Woodlands. His leadership at College Park High School has not only elevated the institution’s academic standing but has also fostered a culture of community service and inclusivity. His nomination was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his students, the school, and the broader community.


Interfaith of The Woodlands revealed its 2024 Hometown Heroes during a special announcement on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at The iconic Woodlands Towers at the Waterway. Dr. Murrell, known for his dedication to education and community service, joins a notable group of individuals, a family, a business, and a non-profit organization honored for their lasting impact in The Woodlands.


The list of esteemed honorees includes Roxanne Davis from the YMCA, Justin Kendrick of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, and Ray Sanders, a retired Conroe ISD Board of Trustee. The Murphy family, The John Cooper School (represented by Dr. Stephen Popp), and The Rotary Club (represented by Kay Boehm-Fannin) were also acknowledged for their significant contributions.


The selection of the 2024 Hometown Hero awardees, are based on nominations from community members. These individuals and organizations were chosen for their exemplary service, leadership, courage, and positive impact in The Woodlands. The criteria for the award include serving as role models, a history of volunteerism, sacrificing personal gain for noble goals, and exhibiting remarkable leadership and courage.


The Hometown Hero awardees, including Dr. Mark Murrell, will be celebrated at The Woodlands Celebration of Excellence Gala in April 2024. This gala not only honors these local heroes but also raises funds for Interfaith to provide crucial crisis services to South Montgomery County. Congratulations to Dr. Murrell and all the 2024 Interfaith Hometown Hero Award recipients for their outstanding contributions to our community.
