The Woodlands, Texas – More than 200 juniors at The Woodlands High School were inducted into the National Honor Society on Wednesday evening during a formal ceremony that recognized their academic achievements, service, leadership, and character. Originally planned for an outdoor setting, the event was moved into the gymnasium after an afternoon rain made the seating area unusable.

Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the oldest and most prestigious student recognition programs in the country. Membership is based on four pillars—scholarship, service, leadership, and character—and is regarded as one of the highest honors a high school student can attain.

The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by remarks from Assistant Principal Chad Latham. Mr. Latham then presented each inductee with a National Honor Society certificate of membership as their names were announced. Each student also signed the school’s official NHS registry, formalizing their entry into the organization.

In addition to inducting the Class of 2026 members, the school introduced its newly selected NHS officers for the 2026 senior class. These student leaders will guide the chapter in the upcoming school year, helping to organize service projects and uphold the standards of the organization.

Remarks were also delivered by the 2025 NHS officers, who led the inductees in reciting the National Honor Society pledge. The event, coordinated by NHS faculty advisor Preston Black, maintained its traditional tone and sense of occasion, despite the last-minute venue change.

NHS members are recognized at graduation by a distinctive V-shaped satin stole, worn over their gown. The stole features the NHS logo embroidered on one side and serves as a visible symbol of their dedication to academic excellence and community service throughout high school.
