The Woodlands High School girls golf team emerged victorious at the 2024 Woodlands Golf Tournament, a crucial make-up event for the weather-canceled games earlier this year, hosted at The Woodlands Country Club - West (Oaks) Course.
Local high school golf teams gathered at The Woodlands Country Club - West (Oaks) Course for a 36-hole tournament, orchestrated to compensate for several weather-canceled events earlier in the year. The weather was in perfect favor, setting the stage for an exceptional day of golf.
The Woodlands High School girls team showed exceptional form, with junior Charlotte Stick leading the pack, finishing in 4th place. Equally impressive were Tate Hutcheson and Payson Pistono, who tied for 7th place, and Claire Smith, who rounded out the top 10. Sofia De La Garza's 12th place finish further solidified the team's overall strong performance.
Despite the absence of star player Veronika Exposito, the team's resilience shone through. The tournament ended in a dramatic tie with Tomball High School Cougars, with The Woodlands ultimately clinching the win on a tiebreaker.
Woodlands Head Girls Golf Coach Chad Handley reflected on the team's performance: "We've had really good practices, but nothing can replace actually going and playing a full round or in this case, two rounds of golf in a single day."
The Woodlands High School's success at the 2024 Woodlands Golf Tournament speaks volumes about the strength and depth of their girls golf program. With both seasoned juniors and promising freshmen leading the way, the team's future looks as bright as the clear skies under which they claimed their latest victory.
