Over 200 students perform with Trans-Siberian Orchestra's original string master in a sold-out, light-filled celebration.
The Woodlands, Texas – The Woodlands High School Orchestra showcased the talents of over 200 student musicians in their annual winter concert, held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at McCullough Junior High School Auditorium. Directed by Aaron Michaelson, Director of The Woodlands High School Orchestras, and Christian Ponce, Assistant Director, the performance featured a vibrant display of skill and dedication from the students.
The event, titled "The Mark Wood Trans-Siberian Experience," brought holiday classics to life through a unique collaboration with Mark Wood, the original string master of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Students performed iconic pieces such as "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Carol of the Bells," and "Wizards in Winter" while integrating electric rock elements under Wood’s guidance.
The McCullough auditorium was transformed into a digital wonderland of synchronized lighting, smoke, and lasers, enhancing the students’ performances. Mark Wood worked closely with the orchestra during a two-day workshop, helping students master the program’s dynamic arrangements as part of his "Electrify Your Strings!" initiative.
The performance underscored the students' hard work and musical growth, as they skillfully combined traditional orchestral techniques with innovative styles. This collaboration with Mark Wood not only pushed the students to explore new musical boundaries but also highlighted the importance of community support for music education, ensuring memorable experiences for both the students and the sold-out audience.
